Real Wedding Spotlight: Norman and Michaela

We couldn’t be happier here at Eastern Floral to announce a new recurring blog feature, “Real Wedding Spotlight.” We’re asking the lovebirds we’ve worked with to tell us all about their big day and what made it so special. Read on to meet our debut couple, Norman and Michaela Debski, who tied the knot last December in Grand Rapids.

Wedding Date: December 30, 2017
Venue: The Goei Center
Dress: AlexVeil Bridal – Etsy
Bridesmaid Dresses: Jenny Yoo
Photographer: Kylee Paige Photography
Videographer: Gabby Hulst Storytelling
Dessert: Sweet Tooth Bakery
Stationary: Rose Gold & Copper Design Company

Since she works at the Goei Center, Michaela’s choice of venue was no surprise—and neither was her wedding prep game. Wedding consultant Molly Tiesma had worked on lots of weddings with the bride-to-be before, so the two had an easy rapport and a blast at the consultation. “It was really fun to design for someone I know, and especially someone who was so adventurous with her style!” says Molly. Indeed, Michaela trusted Molly’s instincts so much, the consultant got to be creative in her greenery and floral selection, even sourcing acacia foliage all the way from Australia for the bride’s bouquet. The Debskis were good enough to answer our burning questions about their glorious winter wedding.

Tell us about your love story!

Norman and I actually attended rival middle schools but ended up at the same high school. We were really good friends for a very long time. He was cousins with my best friend and would call me for girl advice. One day during our senior year, he kissed me out of the blue. As they say, the rest is history.

What are three words that best describe your wedding style?

Whimsical. Romantic. Expressive.

What specific moment from your wedding took your breath away?

I remember when we were sitting up front during the ceremony and looking out at all of our  family and friends. I was so blown away with the support system Norman and I have been blessed with. We have the most amazing people in our lives.

If you could do it all again, what’s one thing you would change about your big day, if anything?

The only thing I would change is time (which is a moot point, anyway). Everything just went so fast—the engagement, the entire planning process and the actual wedding day flew by. I just wanted that day to last forever.

What made you choose to work with Eastern Floral?

I chose Eastern Floral because I have only ever heard good things about them.

Tell us about your experience with Eastern Floral.

My experience with Eastern Floral was honestly one of the easiest parts of my wedding planning process. I knew very little about flowers, and given we were having a winter wedding, I didn’t know what my options were. I sat down with Molly, and within the first few minutes of conversation, I could tell she just got it. I actually had very little to do with how amazing my florals ended up being. Molly took my very broad vision and made it a reality far beyond what I could’ve imagined.

What advice do you have for future brides/grooms in planning their wedding florals?

My advice would be: leave it to the experts. I had probably pinned a dozen different bouquets on Pinterest during my wedding planning, none of which I ended up liking as much as the one Molly put together for me. So, I guess my actual advice is don’t get too caught up in Pinterest. Let your florist do their job.
