Real Wedding Spotlight: Kristi And Bruce

As weddings go, this one was super special for us, since the bride, Kristi, happened to be our very own Molly Tiesma’s mother. We let the designer and consultant extraordinaire have the first word on how it was to work with her mom (and new stepdad) on the most meaningful of projects.

“Designing a bridal bouquet is always a magical part of my job, but designing my mom’s bouquet was just emotional. It felt special to include every detail, thinking of her and all we’ve been through. My mom has been a symbol of strength throughout my life, so to see her so happy is incredible. I’m so glad I got to create something this personal for her wedding and to collaborate with Bruce on the ceremony arch. He built it from logs found in his backyard, and we designed the whole display together. I love them both dearly.”

Tell us about your love story!

Five years ago, I went to a 4th of July party to make a “brief appearance” on the way to a date. While mingling at the party, I noticed a gentleman keeping close visual tabs on me all afternoon and decided to introduce myself on my way out. When I extended my hand and said, “Hello, I’m Kristi,” he replied, “I know.” Bruce and I had attended the same church many years ago, but so much time had passed that I didn’t recognize him. After chatting for a few moments, he walked me to my car and asked me out. I said yes, and we’ve been together ever since!

What are three words that best describe your wedding style?

Woodsy, rustic and intimate.

What specific moment took your breath away?

Bruce’s grandson Mitchell was our ring bearer and rather than walk down the aisle and go to sit with his mother, he stayed right up in front with us. Midway through the ceremony, my four children played guitars and sang. During that beautiful song, I was moved with the recognition that this is not just the joining of a couple, but the joining of two families.

If you could do it all again, what’s one thing you would change for your big day?

I would definitely worry less and go with the flow more!

What made you choose to work with Eastern Floral?

Eastern Floral’s reputation in this community is second to none, which gave me the confidence to tell them what I was hoping for and let them work out the details. Well, that and my daughter Molly is one of their designers!

Tell us about your experience with Eastern Floral.

The opportunity to work with my daughter on my own wedding was priceless. It was such an exciting and busy time, but she helped me focus on what atmosphere I wanted my flowers to convey. Well in advance of the date, she walked me through a budget and explained which flowers would be available at that time. One of the flowers that I wanted would be out of season, and she helped me find an alternative. It ended up being even better than I had envisioned. She truly did work magic! The arch decorations were stunning, and my bouquet was more than I could have imagined.

What advice do you have for future brides/grooms when planning your floral?

First: Trust the florist. They have the experience and know how to guide your choices in relation to your preferences, your price and seasonal availability.

Second: Go with what you want! You know what you want. This is your day!
