Styled Shoot: The Offbeat Bride

We’re beyond excited here at Eastern Floral Weddings to unveil the first in a series of styled shoots showcasing modern nuptial style. Spoiler alert—today’s style shows serious range, with brides and grooms taking a variety of approaches to the look of their wedding. Whether they’re rocking an urban punk vibe or giving us that enchanted forest feel, modern couples are definitely making their weddings their own.

First up it’s our offbeat couple, that dynamic duo who together march to the beat of their own drum. Iconoclastic, independent and fearless, these two define their own style, creating an entirely unique wedding experience and having a lot of fun while they’re at it. Attitude meets class. Leather meets lace. This creative collaboration among some of the area’s top vendors took place at Grand Rapids Ballet. It’s a wedding scene that channels the excitement of the city as much as it does the vibrant imagination of the couple at its heart.

There’s nothing like a strong opener, is there? From the jump, this unconventional invitation suite from stationer Hannah Jane Langejans sets the style standard. We love the seamless blend of edgy and dark with the feminine script and the soft flowers. Just when you think the bouquet will carry over that softening effect, your expectations are upended. This bride is going down the aisle with nothing less than a power bouquet.

Protea, peony and ranunculus are all representing here, but no one is blushing. The colors are vivid, electrifying and working that contrast with palm and other greenery. It’s all wrapped in turquoise and complemented by the bride’s own hair. And yes, that is a bromeliad exploding from the center.

Tables carry through the vibrant, touch-of-the-tropics floral scheme, with orange and blue informing the glassware and plating provided by the fabulous Gigi & LaClede. If ever there was a tablescape inspired by a single wall.

The formal seating arrangement is balanced by a bowl of playful florals and a heaping arrangement of flowers on the back of the tufted couch. The furnishings provided by Fancy Fray are a perfect counterpoint to the vibrant and modern feel of the event. That includes the bar area, where Tonic & Lime set up an elegant, mid-century service area for the festive guests.

Of course our offbeat couple opts for ice cream cones over a tiered cake. The scoops come from the very grown-up Love’s Ice Cream truck, but we adore the nostalgic reference to the ice cream trucks of our youth. Mobile cocktails, food or sweets are a great way to get people socializing and to keep things lively (as well as buy you time to get photographs taken). Signage indicates what’s on offer, with each flavor more intriguing than the next.

When this couple throws a party, their guests show up in style. From buttercream and mustard suiting to floral frocks like this one, with its pitch-perfect colors, this couple’s crew brings even more personality to the scene. Not that our riveting newlyweds need it.

More inspo’s on the way: stay tuned for our next styled shoot!
